Obituary --- A very highly esteemed resident of Hastings in the person of Mr MATTHEW BOWER passed away at his residence, Hastings Street, early yesterday morning. The late Mr Bower came to reside in Hastings from Palmerston North some seven years ago and was then employed by Mr T. Dewsnap, bootmaker of Hastings. Later, Mr Bower went with Mr C Gfiffiths. He leaves a widow and a famly of two girls and four boys (one of the latter, Hugh, being at present in Trentham Military Hospital as a result of wounds received on active service) to mourn his death and to them will be extended the sincere sympathy of many friends. The late Mr Bower who was only 45 years of age was well until last Friday when a cold from which he had been suffering seemed to be affecting him. This was not looked upon as serious, however by yesterday morning he took for the worse and at 7am had a seizure of the heart and passed away. The funeral will leave his late residence for Hastings Cemetery.
