Prairie Meal (Maize Gluten 60%)

Introduction

Dried by-product of the manufacture of maize starch. It consists principally of gluten obtained during the separation of starch.

In the wet milling process, after the maize germ and fibre are removed, the remaining material is centrifuged to isolate the starch from the gluten for further processing into modified starches, sweeteners etc. The remaining gluten is dried and then milled/sieved to produce a consistent coarse powder high in proteins and with a natural orange pigmentation.

Origin

US, UK, EU

Nutritional Information

Rich in protein and energy but poor in Lysine, It is also a reasonable starch source (16% in DM).

For ruminants, the protein is largely rumen undegradable and high in bypass methionine, while layer feeds benefit from the natural high levels of xyanthophyl which helps yolk pigmentation.

Colour/Texture

Bright golden orange granular meal.

Palatability

Palatable at up to 15% within a finished ration.
