| Sunflower
Extractions |
| Introduction |
| By product of oil manufacture obtained be
expelling and/or extraction of seeds of the sunflower
Grown for its 'soft' polyunsaturated oil, which is
removed by expeller and or extraction. The seed has a
typical oil content of 45% and dehulled prior to oil
extraction. The hulls are added back to the product after
the oil is removed |
| Origin |
| Sub tropical/temperate countries. |
| Nutritional Information |
| Sunflower has good protein levels but a
lower lysine content than soya. It is high in fibre which,
if originating from the seed coat, is poorly digested and
should be finely ground. Removing the hulls from the meal
produces a more digestible product with higher protein
level (Hipro Sunflower). Rich in sulphur-containing amino
acids and phosphorus but low in lysine. Can be included
in pig and poultry rations, but best suited to ruminant
rations within which it can help reduce acidosis by its
fibre contribution. |
