F.A.Q:
What is a "Mailing List"?

A mailing list is like a discussion group on a particular subject (in this case the subject is Hippos) where, instead of you going to the WWW to post a message, the messages is sent to you via Email to your email address.
Each message is sent to everyone who has subscribed to the list and everyone on the list has the ability to reply.
There are two types of subscriptions.
- The normal version - emails are sent to you as they are posted to the list, individually (recommended)
- The
digest version - you receive one email each night that contains all the emails sent to the list during the day
Use whichever suits you best. You can always change from one version to the other.

How do I post a message?

To post a question, comment, reply etc, to the list just open your Email program and compose a message to hippos@onelist.com, this is the address of the list.

In the Subject field put in the best description for the message (Eg, Hippo sighting or new collectables's) then type your message.

It's just like writing an email!

What can I post?

Anything!! You can ask a question, reply to someone elses question, make a comment about hippos. This is the great way to learn about hippos, speak to other people who also like them or just make some friends!

Will my email be bombarded with letters?

If you have used a mailing list before you may know that there may be little email, or a lot.... Basically if there is a "conversation" going on there may be a few emails.
As this list is very new and is just starting off there will not be as many postings to start with, people will be breaking the ice, getting used to being on the mailing list and sitting back and watching.
Don't worry if you are unsure about posting a message, lots of people feel this way. Read other peoples posts and send a message to the list when you feel comfortable. This is what the list is for, to talk and discuss... that is what makes the list great!
A good way to introduce yourself is to post a message saying hello to everyone when you join.
If your email program has "filtering" or "Inbox Assistant" available (for example; Outlook Express) this will help you sort out the mailing list emails.
Make a separate folder called "Hippos" and get your program to download any emails from hippos@onelist.com straight to this folder. This will separate the list's emails to your personal ones.
Rules
This is an unmoderated list, in other words what you post is not censored and basically there are no set 'rules'.
All that is asked is that everyone treats everyone else with respect and remember, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. We are a friendly bunch of people & would love you to join! Everyone is welcome!

How do I leave the list?
Of course, we hope that you do not want to leave the list but there is a way to stop recieving emails at any time. To unsubscribe to the list go to the ONElist web site, at http://www.onelist.com and
select the User Center link from the menu bar on the left.

Join the new mailing list for hippo lovers!
