Outline of Coaching
Coaching and participation in swimming can be very worthwhile if the outlook and
expectations of those involved centre on what is best for the swimmer. The most important
people are the swimmers, whether they are the fastest or the slowest.
-
It would be ideal to give equal time to each swimmer. However this is impractical,
because they all have different needs. There is no time allotment that can be prescribed
across the board. It is more important and practical to give each swimmer equal
opportunity to take advantage of the coachs desire to work with all of them.
-
All swimmers must invest their time and effort into the sport. Success in competition is
the direct result of how much work each individual puts into it. Similarly, there are no
shortcuts for the coach. Consistent and persistent effort by swimmers and coaches is the
prerequisite for achieving anything worthwhile in swimming.
