At the Club we have structured progression with each group having objectives to achieve, these are the building blocks for the future. 

GROUP ORDER: 

(May 2000 onwards)

TadpolesFrogs TurtlesDolphinsSharksOrcas (1) - Orcas (2) -

Senior Squad 1 (Advanced Swimmers) - Senior Squad 2

 

N.B. swimmers will progress only with the agreement of the teachers.   

 

 

 

   Tadpoles  

(Approximate age: 4 – 6)

  1.  SAFE ENTRIES (SITTING/JUMPING)

  2.  DEVELOP WATER CONFIDENCE (REMOVE ARMBANDS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE)

  3.  STAR FLOAT (FRONT AND BACK)

  4. MUSHROOM FLOAT

  5. KICK USING FLOATS (AND USING THE BAR)

  6. PADDLE FOR 5M ON FRONT AND BACK (5M BADGE)

  7. KICK SIMULTANEOUSLY

  8. PUSH AND GLIDE OFF WALL

 

GAMES: JUMPS ON THE POOLSIDE (HOW HIGH CAN THE SWIMMER JUMP?)

 

IMPORTANT OBJECTIVE: CREATE AN ENJOYABLE ATMOSPHERE

(Approximate age: 7 – 8)

  1. DEVELOP BUOYANCY AND STREAMLINING (PUSH AND GLIDE – FRONT & SIDE)

  2. GAMBOLES

  3. KICK WITHOUT FLOATS ON FRONT AND BACK (STREAMLINED POSITION)

  4. SURFACE DIVES (RETRIEVE AN OBJECT FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE POOL)

  5. SWIM FRONTCRAWL AND BACKSTROKE FOR 10M (10M BADGE)

  6. SWIM BREASTROKE FOR 10 M (SIMULTANEOUS ARMS AND LEGS)

  7. SCULLING (SEE BOLDMERE TEACHING STANDARDS)

  8. GAMES: JUMPS ON THE POOLSIDE (HOW HIGH CAN THE SWIMMER JUMP?)

  4. GAMBOLES OFF THE WALL (PLACING FEET ON WALL)

  5. TREAD WATER FOR 30 SECS

  6. SWIM BACKSTROKE

  7. SWIM BREASTROKE (TIMING)

  8. SWIM 25M ON FRONTCRAWL AND BACKSTROKE (25M BADGE)

  9. SCULLING (SEE BOLDMERE TEACHING GUIDLINES)

  10. INTRODUCTION TO BUTTERFLY (KICK AND BODY MOVEMENT – NO ARMS)
