Introduction

This site is devoted to providing a bibliography of sources for the Roman invasion and occupation of Britain. There are also references to material dealing with the periods immediately before and after the occupation, and a selection of general background references which illustrate the context of the Roman empire and civilization.

The aim is to help those who do not have easy access to academic resources or library catalogues, identify useful material for study and reference, particularly material published by local archaeological societies in the UK.

The format of the listings is, I hope, straightforward ....Author(s), Date, Title, Container Publication, Publisher etc....listed in descending order of most recent date.  In the Archaeology sections entries are listed alphabetically by the local name of the site.  The names of some serial publications and local society journals have been truncated to reduce the size of individual pages but a key to abbreviations can be found on a dedicated page .

In some cases the relationship between a listed item and it's topic heading may seem somewhat arbitrary to the learned eye,  and I welcome any help in correcting mistakes in this area, as well as suggestions for the inclusion of material I have missed due to my sheer ignorance of it's existence. The listings are notably short of recent material published by local archaeological societies, so if you can help rectify this please do email me with items for inclusion.
