Your CLP's Contemporary Motion: closing date 17 September

Unlike in previous years, CLPs and affiliated organisations are restricted in the topics they can submit. Their resolution has to be on a subject not covered in the NPF/NEC reports to Conference or on an issue arising out of events subsequent to the publication of these reports.

Each organisation is only permitted to submit one resolution or constitutional amendment. Those who have already proposed a rule change cannot make a further submission. But it is important that CLPs and unions who have not done so should make full use of this limited opportunity. We have drawn up several model contemporary motions. If carried, these would help to establish a more democratic Labour Party. For this reason we hope your CLP will agree to submit one.

For details of model contempory motions, go to Conference Bulletin

PR: consultation on Jenkins' proposals

The Party is encouraging branches and CLPs to debate former SDP leader Roy Jenkins' proposals for electoral reform for Westminster. Jenkins' Alternative Vote Plus system (AV-plus) would hand parliamentary seats to the Liberal Democrats at the expense of Labour. The recent experience of Labour in Wales and Scotland clearly demonstrates the threat to Labour majority government posed by Jenkins' proposals.

CLPD hopes that local parties will take this opportunity to reject AV-Plus and reaffirm both their preference for First Past the Post, and their opposition to coalitions with the Liberals or any other party.
