't Nes Cafe A serious pool player's bar and former coffeeshop. It's still very much cannabis-friendly and has both a Verdamper and a Volcano vaporiser but the July 2008 tobacco ban means that cigarettes are not permitted inside. At the front of the shop is an open area that now serves as a tobacco smoking zone. Inside, there is various seating around the bar area and the pool table takes pride of place at the rear. The Nes has a special relationship with the ACD forum because a forum member, DC, works there and maintains a guest book for forum members initiated by another member, Rez (also of VDF).

Definitely the best coffee shop in Amsterdam! Excellent stuff & staff, music (bar tender has filled us with dozen The Cure & Depeche Mode songs); alcohol is still available (which is very important because the most coffee shops does not serve it anymore due to legal restrictions)! Also, WC is decent! We will visit Nes very soon again!

What can I say, this place has been my favourite cafe since I started going to the dam. The owners and staff are helpful and friendly, all their weed is Bio so no nasty chemicals ruining the high, the Nes T grass was the best of this trip! And they have a great selection of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages, and how could you not mention the pool table. However as of 1st April 2007 this shop will no longer sell cannabis because of the new regulations, I was talking to the owner about this and he says there has been no official notice but it is in all the newsletters so he said it will happen. They will still let you take weed in there and smoke it so not all is lost. Overall a brill locals place friendly to tourists. 9.5/10

Nice menu with a couple of attractive upper-end Hazes. We smoked the Sada Shiva (1g/E10), which was so uplifting that it was noticeable even after several hours of smoking a variety of strains at another shop with other members of the ACD forum. Personally, I would saw the pool table into three pieces, throw it out the door, and put in more table seating, but that's just me. A very worthwhile visit.

A new favorite of mine! First time in all my trips that I made it into this vibrant little shop. First off, if you go here ask if Dave (known in this forum as DC) is working. I had the chance to meet him and he was an extremely nice and cool guy. He talked for a bit, showed me all their buds, let me sign the "ACD guest book," and he also set me up with his favorite, the "Stella Blue" at 8.50 euro a gram, what a deal. This stuff is great! Nice true "Blueberry" bud, hard to find sometimes these days. Cafe Nes is a great place to get smoke, the rest of the menu was high quality, with several hasj choices as well. They also serve bier, and good bier at that! You can even get the rare t'IJ brewery bier, a local micro-brewery as we would call in the states. This place is really fun though, great rock and R&B music, an amazing pool table in the back (I believe an 8 foot Brunswick), nice lighting, candles lit on all the tables nice touch, overall a very great ambiance for a bier and a buzzz. There is a nice little terras out front where you can sit, and as you come in the narrow front there is a fair amount of seating at several wall tables with stools, and also tables with chairs. A nice sound system surrounds the room and there is also a television, with soccer when I was there. The bar is on the right and they have anything you would want to drink (try a traditional Jenever), also here is the wiet menu. In the very back is the pool room, and a few more tables. As I said the staff is great, very, very friendly, ask to see all the menu items and they will be happy to set you up. I highly recommend finding this place, just off the Dam, down the little alley, Nes straat, note the opening hours. A little oasis in the middle of town. Once again, thank you Dave and the rest of the staff, you guys rock!

Darker and dense buds with odd sweet smell, good mild smooth taste but stone was only alright. Place itself was quite weird. I don't see why everyone else likes it soo much, maybe I picked a bad bud (Blue Stella).

This place is our favourite place to go, the guys there couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. As always, outstanding smoke and great vibe this pace truly makes you feel at home. We visited every day and even managed to catch the leaving party for one of the staff, Ozzie Rob who was off back home - there was a lot of love in the room that night, he will missed.

Tucked away in a little alley just off Dam, this place has been a rising star on my visits of the last two or three years. The weed menu is always quality IMO and the selection is always well dried and cured. T'Nes had the busiest weed counter of this trip, and by some margin. Best smoke this time around was the NY Diesel - like chewing grapefruits from the exhaust pipe of a bus. I also had some very nice, very strong Kush. The weed and hash are fairly priced and you can get some nice deals by upping the grams. Always be sure to ask what the 'weed of the month' is. I love the fact that you can have a beer with your joints and it will be a shame if this place has to stop selling alcohol if and when the new rules come into force. I have always found the staff very helpful and friendly and not seen the rip off mentioned in another review. Crowd is a nice mix of locals and tourists, wide range of music, something for everyone. Highly recommended, can't wait to see you again soon.

The best cafe in the whole of Amsterdam, the staff are the most welcoming, making you feel right at home. Always got good smoke with lots of different strains on offer.

Great vibe, more like a local pub than a tourist orientated coffee shop. If Simon is still there trust his judgement. He rolled me killer 1 gram AK47 ice-o-lator joints on a number of visits. The beer is good, the service is good and the smoke pretty good. There are better places to buy stronger smoke but few better for the vibe. I've never been scammed in many visits despite other reviews.

Had 2 very different experiences here. First time really enjoyed it, went back and got scammed by the two staff on, who managed to palm me off with a counterfeit note. Watch out for the guy with dreads and the petite barmaid with shoulder length brown hair, obviously a scam they have going. Or better still, don't go at all. I won't be.

More like your local bar than a coffee shop, Nes is not huge but you can usually get a seat. It has a pool table, a reasonable selection of music and whatever football is on (with the sound off). The staff, who are the best in the city, are happy to advise on the latest selection from their menu. Their AK47 ice-o-later was as powerful as the name suggests - expensive but worth it. Very nice pure Haze as well. The clientele are a mixture of locals and tourists and they are also happy to give you the benefit of their experience. I met lots of nice people there. My favourite place to wind down with a few beers and several joints.

Second visit and it confirmed my first experience, a fine shop. Grab one of their postcards for looking at when back again in Blighty, and use it to remind yourself to say no if considering buying Soapbar - save the money to visit Nes again.

Many thanks to Simon (sorry I didn't make it once more before I left) ~ he actually rolled 2 gram joints for me!

Nes' MC is a really great chap and a fine source of info, excellent music going down as well when I visited (in between halfs of the Holland v Czeck game).

I picked 6 shops as a must visit and found all with the map from this site. Carmen sat at a table and I went to the bar to look at the menu. The bartender freaked out, yelled the godfather is here, I'm 55 and have grey hair. I asked to see the menu and out comes the owner. I asked about weed and hash, got a gram and a pint of Leffa Belgium Blond, some of the best ale in the world (2 euro), sat down, soon here comes the owner, can't remember his name, hope you understand why. He asked me to come to his office, once there he says what the f--k are you doing here? I told him we came from the US to catch a buzz, he says no shit! I tell him no shit and give him my printout of directions to find his shop. He pulls out 5/6 slabs of hash talks about each and asks what do you want to try. He packs a bowl we return to our table to smoke it. My wife likes weed more than hash so he leaves, comes back with 1/2 gram of his strain closest to Bubblegum/Yellow Cab (her favorites). The weed was smooth and mellow but the hash was some of the best I've ever had in 40 years, as good as MoonshineA+ from the Dampkring for sure. 't Nes took over as my favorite coffee shop in Amsterdam and I've been to at least 50 of them. Great beer, weed and hash at prices in line with other shops and better than some. Slow, slow, slow but free internet access with a web cam of the pool table. Music played low enough so my deaf ears can hear people talk.

Cracking place not far from Dam Square. One of the dealers was from St. Albans and he picked me out from a previous trip. Weed in here was nice but try some of the Hash that's on offer - very tasty. One tip if you plan to visit Nes: it don't open 'till 5.

Great little place! The atmosphere was cool, a mix of locals and ex-pats as far as I could tell. Good deals and good prices on the "menu". Not very big and maybe a bit dingy for those who like to hang out in pastel coloured wine bars but we liked it just fine!

I have been meaning to visit this place for ages. I usually miss it as it opens at 5pm. It's known as a pool bar and boasts the best table in town and 50 cent games. Through the snow in the early evening I went for beer, pool, smoke and general look around. I liked this place, it was quiet and the barman was friendly - although I think he yearned to be in a busier establishment - The beer, standard Amsterdam stuff 2-00 euro a glass, it is actually cheaper and some places advertise "the cheapest beer in town" and then scowl at you if you take back the 25 cent change - give the tip to the poor sod serving you and remember it's 2-20 euro at the airport, money grabbing gits. The pool, a great table well maintained and a neat way of paying for your game - an old milk can hanging on the wall - the guys here take there game seriously - don't barge past to the loo while shots are being taken and that sort of stuff - there standard of play was good but not unbeatable. The smoke, I went for "Nes Special" weed 6-00 euro a gramme, nothing special I thought but I'm sure they have better. Another place I will return too.

'top quality' hash & weed for fair prices. People behind the bar can tell you everything about 'smoking', Amsterdam and the nightlife. Papers, tips and pipes free to use. Great coffee Great beer and other alcoholic beverages because it's also a bar!! Free Internet The best pooltable in town, only 50 euro cents a game.
