Having searched for nearly a decade to find a medium to call my own,
I stumbled one night upon a birdhouse blown down in a storm that someone had left for trash by the side of the road.
Something struck me about the quality of the wood -- the layers of paint worn away by wind and rain -- the whole thing
faded from years of exposure to the sun.
I picked it up and carried it back to my studio --
which at the time I was using to work at painting.
I had for some time been considering trying my hand at assemblage art.
The birdhouse sat for weeks until one afternoon, frustrated at my progress with a painting,
I smashed the house into smaller pieces.
Something about the pieces caught my attention and I
started arranging several of them together. This is how I began...
