Historical Surrealism
Try reading André Breton's Manifesto of Surrealism (1924).
Search tips: to get to the essence of 'Surrealism', focus on 'Duchamp' rather than 'Dali'.
From it's roots in 'Dada' during the 1920's
to the current proliferation of surrealist inspired ideas, Surrealism can be said to have permeated contemporary society more than any other (so called)
Art Movement, despite being continuously reviled by the art establishment.
In brief, 'Surrealism' attempts to further our understanding
of the human condition by seeking ways of fusing together our perceived conscious reality with our unconscious dream state.
Without the influence of Dada and Surrealism there would perhaps be no 'Conceptual Art',
and no 'Situationist's' (situationist's for beginners: read this ).
About Surrealism.co.uk
This is an 'Online' Space, for artist's and audience's interested in contemporary art.
The purpose of this Web Site is to entertain, inform, and inspire.
Try our discourse on contemporary female surrealists.
The only criteria for inclusion on this site is that the artist(s) must genuinely believe their work to be in some sense 'surreal'.
If you would like further details of how to join (submit work) please continue here.
In the future we would like to be able to include both 'moving images' & 'musical' contributions (time and finances permitting). Meanwhile,
here's a rare chance to hear Marcel Duchamp's musical compositions hear this.
We hope that you find something of interest on this site (DIG DEEP - it goes a long way).
For first time visitors we have included a quick site guide.
