Recording the Hare Krsna Mantra Radha Krsna Temple Discography Devotional Songs by George Harrison
"One who always sees all living entities as spiritual sparks, in quality one with the Lord, becomes a true knower of things. What, then, can be illusion or anxiety for him?" ~ Mantra seven - Sri Isopanisad

![]() Sriman George Ki Jai! "Everybody is looking for KRSNA. Some don't realise they
are, but they are." ~ George On the 28 August 1969, at Sydenham Hill, Southeast London, George Harrison joined the London based section of Hare Krishna devotees to announce the release of the Apple single 'Hare Krishna Mantra'. The event took place around a blue and white striped pavilion, where bemused photographers and journalists were greeted with a lively kirtana and offerings of prasadam, (vegetarian food offered to Lord Krishna with devotion). Among the gathering of devotees George sang, chanted and played karatalas alongside Yamuna Devi Dasi (harmonium), Mukunda Goswami and Syamasundara Dasa, who were soon to become life long friends of Sriman George. The devotional single would go on to be a worldwide hit, selling 70,000 copies a day throughout September 1969, and reaching no 17 in the UK music chart. The single also entered the top ten in Japan and provided the devotees with a no 1 in Germany and Czechoslovakia, as well as being featured no less than four times on the BBC's 'Top of the Pops'.

When
asked by Mukunda Goswami in 1982 why he was involved with the
record, George replied, "Well it's all part of the service,
isn't it? Spiritual service, in order to try to spread the mantra all
over the world."
So, in that spirit, this site will attempt to provide information on George's involvement with the Radha Krishna Temple (London), covering the recording of the Hare Krishna Maha (great) Mantra, the follow up single Govinda, and The Radha Krsna Temple Album.
"No other means of spiritual realization is as effective in this age of quarrel and hypocrisy as is the Maha Mantra. Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare." ~ A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami
