I kept telling you to work hard. I kept telling you to practice
your lyre, or learn the lines for the play. But you wouldn't ... always off playing
with the horses down the stables. What a waste.
Now you are a soldier ... rowing a Trireme to Sicily. I
hope they put you on the top deck, the smell is not too bad there. You could have
been a great scholar, you had the brains.
Take care. Remember the story of Theseus that I taught
you. Theseus was brave and a good fighter, but he was also wise ... he knew how to look
after himself .... remember the thread?
Stay in the centre ... hold your shield tight. For the
honour of Athens!
Death to Sparta!!
Your old friend and teacher
