We make our own clothes. It's too expensive to buy them in the Agora ( market ). Linen or wool, we spin and spin. We can just afford to buy jewelry from the peddlers... you know hairpins, rings, and earrings, that sort of thing. We even make our own perfume by boiling flowers and herbs. Today we must wear our finest. Grampus and Poliphus are to entertain Pericles himself. Such an honour for our humble home. It's not often that our leader goes out these days with such a dreadful plague in the city. |
