(1) is kneeling in front of King Alfred (2). He is offering
his sword in surrender. A priest (3) is

Christian.
The Viking army used to take their families with them
when they went to battle. (4)
After the battle Alfred told Guthorm that he and the
Vikings could take control of most of Bretland ( England ) as
long as Guthorm and the Vikings became Christians and agreed that Alfred be the King of
the whole country.
Guthorm agreed and took his army to settle in Mercia. The part of the country that the Vikings lived in was
called the Danelaw. |
