I'm 17 years old now. I'm a
fighter, I'm a bully. I like it when new boys are admitted to the school. I 'toughen' them
up ... the beatings never did me any harm when I arrived ... does them good. My lying is developing well but I still need some more practice. |

I got beaten the other day. Maxilla and I
were feeling a bit hungry so we went out to steal a chicken or two. Very tasty they
were. Unfortunately the farmer spotted us taking them and reported us. We got beaten
... not for stealing the chickens ... but for getting caught.
It hurt.Our 'teacher' told us that one boy, a few years ago, caught a live
fox, planning to kill it and eat it. He noticed some Spartan soldiers approaching, and hid
the fox beneath his shirt. To avoid the punishment he would receive if caught stealing, he
let the fox to chew into his stomach rather than confess he had stolen a fox, and did not
allow his face or body to show his pain.
I don't think I could have been that brave. So the war with Athens is over ... never mind, there'll be other battles for me to fight when I become a soldier in a couple of years |
