2nd Corporal Robert C. Carden
E Company

 

He was born on the 4 July 1843 in Coffee County, TN.

He enlisted in the Army on 23 May 1861 and while stationed at Camp Trousdale, TN, here he caught measles.

Elected 2nd Corporal on the 24 May 1862.

He was wounded beneath the eye at Battle of Chickamauga, 19-20 September, and went to the hospital for awhile.

He was wounded in foot at the Battle of Nashville, 15-16 December 1864.  He up and walked away from the war on the 20 December 1864

He stated that he was arrested at home and brought to the penitentiary in Nashville and forced to take the Oath  on 8 January 1865.

He married Martha E. Carden with whom he had seven daughters and three sons.

While living in Coffee County, TN, he filed for a pension, number #8029, on 2 April 1906, but it was rejected.

Shortly before he died, at Manchester, TN, on 13 June 1915, he wrote a memoir.
