Lt Colonel Thomas B. Murray
Second in Command 16th Tennessee

He was born 1829.

Studied law and was admitted to the bar.

He started his enlisted on the 15 May 1862.

Was originally Captain of H Company he ultimately became second-in-command of the Regiment.

Promoted to Lieutenant. Colonel 8 June 1861.

On leaving the Regiment he later became Major of the 22nd Tennessee Infantry Sharpshooter Battalion.

The last years of his life were spent farming and in the enjoyment of his home and the country life and as a member of the Democratic State Executive Committee.

Only 49 when he died on the 18th, month as yet to be discovered, 1876 (15 January 1878).

He was married to Mary Goodbar.

The funeral was at the Southern Methodist Church and 'the remains were interred in the yard of the family residence and by the side of his youngest daughter who had preceded him, just two years before.'  Its claimed that his remains are now buried in Riverside Cemetery, McMinnville, TN.
