Private James Alexander Boyd
K Company

Born on 4 December 1843, in Jackson Co, the son of John C. Boyd and Martha Holladay.

He enlisted in the 16th Tennessee on the 9 June 1861, but was discharged as a non conscript 16 July 1862.

Enlisted in A Company, (Colonel R. Don) Allison's (Tennessee) Cavalry (Squadron) on the 10 February 1863.

Wounded at Chickamauga on 18 September 1863, in the left hip by exploding shell.

After his recovery, he was made a courier for Joseph Wheeler's Cavalry.

Captured near Alexandria, DeKalb Co, 24 August 1864 and sent to prison in Camp Morton, IN. He was transferred to Camp Douglass, IL and then to Rock Island Prison, IL.

Took the Oath on the 13 Sep 1864

He spent his life being a farmer.

From his young manhood he was a member of the Southern Methodist Church and served for 25 years as superintendent of the Sunday school of the noted old Pleasant Grove Methodist Church. And was a member of the Rock Springs Masonic Lodge.

He also served as Deputy Sheriff of Putnam County.

Married Rhoda Frances 'Fannie' Nichols.  They had six children!, William Lemuel, John Clinton, Dallas Bethel, and Zora Ann Boyd.

Pension #1208 filed 21 October 1902 and granted 2 April 1906.  Many people wrote on his behalf and his claim eventually granted.

Died 7 October 1927 and is buried in the James A. Boyd Cemetery, Baxter, TN.
