William Henderson Hughes

I do not recall receiving a prior email. Attached is the only photo that I
have of my gg grandfather, William Henderson Hughes. Also attached is a pdf
that I have accumulated in my research. I was raised in the home with my
great aunt, Willie Hughes, daughter of William Henderson Hughes. I always
remember the story that Grandpa was at Rock Island, IL when the war ended.
He was given a horse and $10 as I recall. He ended up in Louisville
(Jeffersontown) where he met and married Julia Yeager, my gg grandfather.
Aunt Willie was very vocal about her disdain for alcohol. I found a census
record showing that she lived with her parents on Walnut Street in
Louisville where her dad was a barkeeper. Maybe that's why she was so
against alcohol! Perhaps he tended to over imbibe at times.

Grandpa was the son of Phillip and Margaret or Martha (Carson) Hughes
(spelled Hughs). He was born June 9, 1844 in (Warren Co. I think) Tennessee
and died 3/26/1919 in Louisville. Some census records show the family living
in the Beersheba Springs area in 1860.

His father, Phillip, died at Irving College, TN. His log cabin still exists
near Irving College (per Joe Beasley (bhbphotos@blomand.net). It's on my
list to visit soon. Joe has been a big help in my research. That's how I
learned about Grandpa being injured per the attached pdf.

His brothers were John Calhoun and Aaron were also described on the attached
pdf.

Thanks for you hard work in this regard. I spend a lot of time on genealogy
in the winter when real estate is slow. If you think of anything else, just
let me know. Hope this helps!
