Jarl Rognvalds story is told in the "Orkneyinga Saga" along with that of his life-long friend Sweyn Asliefarsson.  He was one of Orkneys most popular and just rulers.  He took the islands by the sword (with the help of Sweyn) and controlled them for twenty-two years.  A
devout Christian he led a crusade to the Holy lands  leaving the Islands under the control of his protégé Jarl Harald.  When he returned Sweyn had replaced Harald with his own man.  Sweyn was defeated and soon received Rognvalds forgiveness.  Jarl Rognvald met his death at the hands of an assassin in Caithness in 1158, probably on the orders of the ambitious young Jarl Harald.  He was buried in St. Magnus Cathedral Kirkwall.  Jarl Rognvald was the last true Norse Jarl of Orkney and Caithness.

Each figure is cast in finest Lead-free Pewter, individually finished by the Artist and stands 9" in overall height.  Jarl Rognvald is portrayed prepared for battle.  He wears a helmet and mail coat, which only the wealthiest could afford and wields an ornate sword, a symbol of high status.

Jarl Rognvald is available at £150 plus postage and package.
