Peter
qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1981 following training throughout
the 1970s at The District Valuer's Office ( part of The Inland Revenue
). During his time here he was actively involved in rating and compensation
work, particularly linked to Compulsory Purchase Orders linked to
town centre redevelopment schemes and the construction of the M23
and M25 motorways. During this period Peter was based at Redhill,
Walton-on-Thames and Wimbledon.
In 1981 he joined Bridgers, a Surrey and Sussex based professional
private practice, specialising in surveys and valuations of residential
and commercial property. He became a partner in 1984 with overall
responsibility for the professional services division within this
17 office firm. In 1986 Bridgers were acquired and merged with several
other well known regional practices such as: Messenger May Baverstock,
Hamptons, Levens, Dixon Porter, Giddy and Giddy, Pocock and Drewett,
Lear & Lear and Lambert Smith. The new group was rebranded under
the Hamptons banner and Peter was appointed Managing Director of
the Professional Services Division and had over 100 offices within
his area of operation.
In 1990 Peter, with co-director and long-standing friend, Jeremy
Lyons, decided to leave Hamptons and set up Ashdown Lyons. They
opened the first office in Wimbledon village together. A second
followed in the same year at Leatherhead. These two offices formed
the successful platform for the growth that followed.
Peter says "that the company has enjoyed steady growth
since 1990 and now undertakes over 70,000 surveys and valuations
every year... but we have our sights on 150,000"
The company acts for over 100 lending institutions, covering London
and the Home Counties, and now employs close to 150 staff.
Peter still finds time to carry out surveys himself for he "finds
them enjoyable and testing." He is also a member of The
Lord's Taverners and the MCC. He can often be found at Twickenham,
The Oval or Lords depending upon the season.

he puts many of our younger surveyors to shame when it comes to IT.
You should see him surf ! He knows all the best websites and his mouse
activities will astound you.
All joking aside... Ray has excellent all round experience and
has carried out more Building Surveys in this part of the world
than anyone else we have come across. It must be great to go back
to properties and say to occupiers I remember this in 1975, 1982,
the boom late 80s and the recessionary early 90s. It didn't have
that extension then and I am sure there used to be a wall there
etc. What a knowledge and nostalgia trip. That is why Ray is so
popular in his area and receives many referrals.
Ray is also heavily involved in the profession on an advisory and
training front. He has been chairman and treasurer of the London

member of The Association's Building Surveyors Committee, Law and

enough now Ray... we get the picture. But one more thing... he lectures
regularly also to students on aspects of the profession plus assesses

Believe it or not he has time for hobbies including photography,

a number of corporate organisations dealing with a range of commercial
property matters. He has now jumped over to the other side of the
fence, in order to share his skills with others, and in his own words
because 'being the client got boring and I wanted to become a service
provider'.
Tim's areas of expertise include, inter alia, Retail, Valuations,
Rent Reviews and Lease Renewals although he also knows a thing or
two about Corporate Real Estate ! He is not afraid of anything and
will go anywhere - prime, secondary or tertiary (as he did for Victoria
Wine and Thresher for many years !).
When not shooting around London Tim can be found cycling or walking
the countryside of Surrey, or sometimes writing songs (badly) on
his guitar about little incidents involving his friends. ( Didn't
Elton John start like that ? ). He generally likes to get out and
have fun (although this does sometimes involve watching Brentford
FC !).

Having
made a small fortune in the 70's by importing skateboards to the UK
Brendan decided in the 80's to switch his entrepreneurial skills to
the London property market. After qualifying as a chartered surveyor
he worked for Hamptons and Sinclair Goldsmith before starting his
own ventures: the property development company London and Wiltshire
and the chartered surveying company Lewis Doyle. Successful projects
(both commercial and residential) have been secured as far a field
as Glasgow, Gloucs, the south coast and of course London. Brendan
also has knowledge of the property market in Poland and the south
of France.
He is an avid connoisseur of Northern Soul, French reds (wine not

also like it known that he is the current "house model"
for a brand of sports footwear.

|
Paul qualified as Chartered Building Surveyor in the
early 1980s while working for British Rail Property Board (one of
the few profitable divisions of BR!). Work included managing dilapidations,
refurbishment of commercial premises and grant assisted extensions
to housing stock (in those days outside loos were not uncommon). The
oldest building was an empty listed timber framed 17th century stable,
which had, inter alia, dry rot, settlement, defective peg tiles, and
no services. This was converted to light industrial use thus generating
significant rent.
Paul then worked in the private sector and his duties included
the management of several prestigious mansion blocks in the West
End. Amongst these was the former flat of Lady Diana.
He then moved to Windsor and worked with a number of well-known
surveying firms and enjoyed a very varied workload including: litigation,
expert witness cases, and, of course, valuations and surveys.
When the housing market went into recession, he worked for a time
for a Local Authority trouble shooting tenanted properties. This
involved close co-ordination with lawyers and included a number
of court appearances, which Paul found he enjoyed immensely once
any initial nerves had been dispelled.
When not surveying Paul enjoys philosophy, rock and roll, singing
in a choir and canoeing. He also occasionally supports Crystal Palace
FC.
