Chester Zoo 10K - Helsby Win Team Prize
The Helsby Running Club Trio of John Wycherly in 2nd place 32m 20s, Graham McNeil 9th 33-20 (Personal Best) and Dave Norman 25th 35-02 took theTeam Award in the Chester Zoo 10K Race. Steve Dobson; Graham McAra; Mike Searle; Ian Hilditch and John Gallon followed them home.
Kathryn Roberts lead home a strong turn out from the Helsby Ladies, other competitors were Jackie Keasley; Vanessa Griffiths; Rachael Arnold; Liz Dobson; Jane George; Lucy Gallon; Henri Grice; Val Edwards; Ann Stringer; Steph Charman.
Marathon Runs
Two Helsby runners faced tough Marathons at opposite ends of the country last weekend, Andy Smith ran the 21st Seven Sisters 'off road' marathon over the South Downs, Seven Sisters Hills and Beachy Head to finish in a personal best time of 3hrs 51m for 55th place. Alec Robertson completed his 11th Snowdon Marathon in 4hrs 3m in 324th place.

13th British Fell & Hill Running Relay Championships
Helsby Fell runners fielded a team in the 13th British Fell & Hill Running Championships based this year at Llanberis North Wales. The team comprised Graham McNeil on the first leg, Wayne Percival and Graham McAra on the second leg, Andy Smith and Carol McCarthy on the 3rd navigational leg and finally Jackie Keasley on leg 4. The team finished in 66th position in 4hrs 31min.

25th Sandstone Trail Race
In the 16.5 mile 'A' race Graham McNeil finished 2nd in 1hr 55min with Wayne Percival 18th in 2hr 11m; Andy Smith 30th in2hr 19m and Mike Searle 37th in 2hr 21m.
In the 9.5 mile 'B' race Marcus Walker finished 9th in 1hr 10m; John Daniels 14th and first Super Veteran in 1hr 11m; Kathryn Roberts 2nd Lady 22nd overall in 1hr 17m; Ian Hilditch 28th in 1hr 19m; John Dearden 47th in 1hr 23m; Alec Robertson 49th in 1hr 24m; John Gallon 56th in 1hr 25m; Rachel Arnold 65th in 1hr 28m; Joe Beswick 66th in 1hr 29m; Becky Richardson 69th in 1hr 29m; Jane George 86th - 1hr 36m; Lucy Gallon 93rd - 1hr 42m.

Borders League - Round 1 Wallasey
Helsby men packed well for a strong finish to the first Borders League race of the new season. John Wycherley finished first followed closely by Ian Wetherall 2nd and Graham McNeil 3rd, supported by Paul Boileau 5th; Dave Norman 11th; Steve Dobson 34th; John Daniels 43rd; Graham McAra 50th; Wayne Percival 62nd; Richard Miles 63rd; Marcus Walker 74th; Robbie Webster 141st; John Gallon 170th.
In the ladies section Kathryn Roberts was first Helsby lady in 108th position overall with Venessa Griffiths 157th; Liz Dobson 171st; Becky Richardson 174th; Lucy Gallon 212nd; Ann Stringer 229th.

Guilden Sutton 10k : Helsby take team prize
John Wycherley continued his return to form with a good 2nd place in 32min 40sec to lead Helsby home for the team prize in the Guilden Sutton 10k. Other Helsby members finished:- 7th Graham McNeil 34-01; 9th Paul Boileau 34-22; 13th Dave Norman 34-56; 22nd Gary Burgin 36-07; 30 John Daniels 37-09 2nd V/50; 36 Frank Stevens 37-42; 47th Mike Searle 38-25; 124th John Gallon 46-42.
The ladies were lead home by Kathryn Roberts 71st in 41-21 followed by Vanessa Griffiths 97th 43-54; Rachael Arnold 109th 45-15; Jackie Keasley 120th 46-28; Jane George 132nd 48-42; Lucy Gallon 152nd 52-18; Henri Grice 159th 53-52;

Pie & Peas 5 - Moulton : Triple Success For Helsby
Helsby Running Club won the team prize for the third year at the Moulton Pie & Peas 5 mile race. Winning Team 3rd Graham McNeil 28-06; 7th and 1st V40 Paul Frodsham 28-34; 10th Paul Boileau 29-11; 19th Richard Mitchell 30-55 other male runners 22nd Graham McAra 31-05; 23rd Gary Burgin 31-07; 29th Wayne Percival 31-48; 34th Steve Dobson 32-12; 40th Richard Miles 32-50; 50th Mike Whiteside 33-47; 61st Andy Smith 35-13; 70th Ian Hilditch 36-29; 109th Andy Todd 40-06; 158th Joe Beswick (V70) 45-01.
Venessa Griffiths lead the ladies home in 90th position in 38-14 with Jackie Keasley taking the 1st lady V40 award with 101st in 39-09 followed by 112th Joan Minty 40-27; 120th Liz Dobson 40-02; 157th Henri Grice 45-01; 161st Philipa Scott 46-48; 164th Jossie Murphy 47-20; 165 Rebecca Richardson 47-36; 170th Ann Stringer.
Gobowen 4 mile
Graham McNeil finished in the prizes at the Gobowen 4 in 6th position 21min 37sec with Ann Stringer finishing in 35min.

International Snowdon Race
Andy Smith of Helsby Running Club celebrated his 40th birthday by competing in the International Snowdon Mountain Race from Llanberis (10 mile 3250ft), finishing in 1hr 50m.

Goyts Moss Fell Race
Graham McAra finished 22nd with a time of 52m 50s in the Goyt Moss Fell Race (6.2m/1100ft) from Derbyshire Bridge near Buxton

Moel Siabod Fell Race
Graham McAra competed in the 6.2 mile/2300ft, class 'A Medium', Moel Siabod Fell Race from Capel Curig North Wales finishing in 24th place in 61min 41sec.

Whittington 5 Mile Road Race
Graham McNeil finished 4th in the Whittington 5 mile race in 26 min 35sec, Ann Stringer finished in 43m 31s.

Helsby take first 3 places in Ashton Fun Run

At a record turn out at the Ashton Fun Run comprising of over 100 runners in total tackling the main 5K route and
the mini run for children. In the main race Helsby runners took the first 3 places with Ian Wetherall first in a time of 16 min 53 s, followed by Graham MacNeil in 17 min 56 s and Paul Frodsham in 18 min 9 s.

Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon
3 Helsby runners took part in the 2 day Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon held in the remote Highlands around Ben Alder. The event is a test of both endurance and navigation skills. In the elite class, which included many international runners, Wayne Percival from Helsby and his partner Yiannnis Tridimas, came 20th in a tough race taking 10hrs 56min over the two days. Rachel Arnold and Jackie Keasley finished 5th ladies pair in the 'C' class, finishing 61st out of 135 in a time of 9hrs 43min over the two days.

Croxteth Park 5 Mile
Helsby's Ian Wetherall finished 3rd in the Croxteth Park 5 mile race followed closely by Graham McNeil 5th, in a personal best of 26m 36s, other Helsby runners were 27th Graham McAra 29-29 (PB); 45th Wayne Percival 31-08; 68th Ian Hilditch 33-40; 125th Rachel Arnold 37-03; 130th Jackie Keasley 37-14; 157th Steph Charman 39-40; 187th Andy Todd 42-18; 212th Ann Stringer 47-10.

Tattenhall Tough Team Challenge
Helsby Running Club Members took both the first senior men's and ladies team prizes in the Tattenhall Tough Team event. The winning men's team consisted of Ian Wetherall and Graham McNeil from Helsby and Malcolm Fowler from Macclesfield in a time of 55min 23sec. The Helsby ladies team was Jackie Keasley, running her 3rd race in 6 days, with Vanessa Griffiths and Kathryn Roberts in 76m 52s. Graham McAra, Richard Stradling and Richard Mitchell finished 5th.

Helsby Retain Team Trophy - Chester Half Marathon
Helsby Running Club retained the team trophy in the Chester Half Marathon on Sunday, the winning team were:- Graham McNeil 7th in a personal best time of 72 min 14 sec, Paul Boileau 14th in 74-45 and new member Mervin Ward 41st in 77:41. Other Helsby finishers 47th Frank Stevens 78:22; 57th Graham McAra 79:23; 62nd Richard Straddling 79:43; 219th Andy Smith (a PB) 88:22; 336th Ian Hilditch (first V/60) in 92:23; 385th Geoff Shaw 93:52; 659th John Gallon 101:11; 694th Jackie Keasley 102:13; 1083th Lucy Gallon 112:11.

Thurstaston Multi-Terrain
Paul Frodsham finished 2nd overall and 1st V/40 in the Thurstaston Multi-Terrain race followed home by Graham McNeil in 3rd place; Wayne Percival 12th; Gary Munslow 14th; Graham McAra 16th; Mike Whiteside 35th; Andy Smith 49th; John Dearden first V/60 in 74th place.

Helsby Men win Team Prize at Christleton Fila 5K
Ian Wetherall lead the Helsby contingent home in 12th place with a time of 15m 40s followed by Graham McNeil 15th 15:56, Paul Frodsham 18th 16:05 and a fast improving John Wycherley completing the winning team in 22nd place 16:28.
Other Helsby runners were, Wayne Proudlove 44th 17:27; Frank Stevens 45th 17:30; Wayne Percival 57th 17:54; Graham McAra 58th 17:54; John Daniels 85th 18-54; Andy Smith 92nd 19:01; Marcus Walker 98th 19:08; Mike Searle 101st 19:12; Mike Whiteside 103rd 19:13; Geoff Shaw 125th 19:54; Ian Hilditch 147th 20:21.
Helsby Ladies were led home by Vanessa Griffiths 170th 21-09 followed by Rachel Arnold 182nd 21:33; Rebecca Richardson 207th 22:28; Steph Charman 240th 24:27; Phillipa Scott 241st 24:28; Janet Shaw 26:22.

Helsby Success in Border League Series
Helsby Running Club had one of its most successful Border League series winning the following awards:-
First Senior Mens Team; First Veteran Mens Team; Most improved Senior Ladies Team. Individual awards were awarded to Ian Wetherall overall winner; Graham McNeil 2nd overall and Paul Boilaeu 3rd overall, Kathryn Roberts 2nd senior lady, in the veteran categories Paul Frodsham 1st over 40 and veteran champion; Mark Hinson 2nd over 40; Graham McAra 3rd over 45; Robbie Webster 2nd over 60.

27 members turned out for the final race in the series held at Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port over a 4mile course, club positions were:- Ian Wetherall 2nd; Graham McNeil 4th; Paul Frodsham 5th; Mark Hinson 8th; Paul Boilaeu 12th; John Wycherley 13th; Dave Norman 21st; Frank Stevens 32nd; Wayne Proudlove 37th; Richard Stradling 44th; Graham McAra 46th; Richard Mitchell 60th; John Daniels 84th; Marcus Walker 89th; Steve Dobson 90th; Andy Smith 105th; Kevin Bell 127th; Robbie Webster 133rd; Andy Todd 153rd. London Marathon Finishers.
The Club Chairman Paul Frodsham completed the London Marathon in a very creditable 2hrs 47min, Joan Minty finished 894th lady in 3hrs 55min and new member Henri(etta) Grice in 4hrs 36min.

Helsby Top Team at Rivacre
Paul Frodsam 2nd in 56m 02s; Graham McNeil 3rd in 56-14 and Graham McAra 17th in 61-37 gave Helsby the Team prize in the Rivacre 10 mile road race.
Other Helsby runners were 19th Steve Dobson 61-53; 29th Frank Stevens 64-57; 52nd Max Taylor 71-25; 67th Ian Hilditch 71-46; 70th Geoff Shaw 72-22; 83rd Robbie Webster 75-31.

Another 1st for Ian at the Borders.
Helsby's Ian Wetherall finished 1st in the 5 mile Border League Race held at Wrexham supported by Graham McNeil 4th; Paul Frodsham 9th; Paul Bouleau 18th; Graham McAra 31st; Steve Dobson 43rd; Frank Stevens 54th; Richard Miles 66th; Wayne Percival 78th; Marcus Walker 82nd; Mike Whiteside 106th; Ian Hilditch 118th; Cliff Broom 133rd; Robbie Webster 149th; Kevin Bell 152nd; Andy Todd 168th.
The ladies finished Carol McCarthy 87th; Kathryn Roberts 111th; Helen Smith 156th; Vanessa Griffiths 166th; Liz Dobson 172nd; Joan Minty 174th; Steph Charman 190th.
Helsby's senior mens team finished second but still retain the overall lead in the series. The ladies finished in second place on the day and remain in 3rd position in the series,

National Cross Country Championship - Durham
On what promised to be a forbidding winters day, an intrepid foursome of Helsby men set out to compete in the English National Cross Country Championships in Durham. The start of the Senior mens race was momentarily delayed as the last of the lady runners from the preceeding event completed her race by passing in stately fashion in front of the massed ranks of runners to a tumultulous roar of applause. Thence it was back to business, jaws were set, sinews stiffened, the gun fired and the Helsby men like so many greyhounds were off for 12km of muddy racing
against the best in the country.

Frank Stevens finished 519th in 47:05, Wayne Percival was 600th in 48:09, Graham McAra was 703rd in 49:29 and Andy Smith was 989th in 54:36.

Cheshire Cross Country League - Round 2 South Park Macclesfield
The second round of the Cheshire Cross Country League was held on a cold foggy day at South Park, Macclesfield. Graham McNeil lead the Helsby team home in 6th position followed closely by Mark Hinson in 9th place; other Helsby competitors, Garry Munslow 19th; Wayne Percival 26th; Frank Stevens 34th; Graham McAra 35th; Roy Tunstall 50th.

Intercounties Cross Country Championships
Three Helsby Running Club members represented Cheshire in the Intercounties Cross-Country Championships held at Wollerton Park Nottingham. Simon Ruscoe of Vale Royal led the Cheshire team home in 92nd place in 42 min 26 sec, followed by Mike Proudlove (City of Stoke) 121st in 43-05; Ian Wetherall (Helsby) 122nd in 43-05; Malcolm Fowler 147th in 43-37; Kenneth Moss (Vale Royal) 168th in 43-57; Ian Simpson (Helsby) 186th in 44-22 making up the Cheshire Team counters. Also running was Graham McNeil who finished 232nd in 45-24
With the first six counting for the teams final position, Cheshire finished in 19th place out of the 35 teams competing.

Helsby Continue Winning Streak in Border League
Helsby Running Club Senior Men continued their domination of the Border League, winning the team event hosted by West Cheshire with 189 points against Wirral with 349 and West Cheshire 375.
Ian Wetherall won the race followed by Paul Frodsham 5th; Mark Hinson 7th; Graham McNeil 8th; Ian Simpson 9th; Garry Munslow 14th; Paul Boileau 15th; Frank Stevens 36th; Richard Mitchell 44th; Steve Dobson 50th; Graham McAra 61st; Richard Straddling 65th; Charlie Bamford 71st; Marcus Walker 91st; Mike Searle 93rd; Max Taylor 126th; Andy Smith 133rd; Kevin Bell 170th; Robbie Webster 176th; John Gallon 206th.
The Ladies finished in 3rd place with 55 points behind Wirral 23 and Tattenhall 27.
Overall positions Kathryn Roberts 115th; Helen Smith 175th; Venesa Griffiths 183rd; Liz Dobson 196th; Stephanie Charman 207th; Lucy Gallon 217th.

Great North Cross Country Championships - Witton Park Blackburn
Five Helsby Running Club Senior Men made the journey to Witton Park, Blackburn on Saturday to compete in the Great North Cross Country Championships. Graham McNeil was first home for the club in 113th place with a time of 44m 50s followed by Graham McAra 340th 50m 28s; Frank Stevens 371st 51m 21s; Marcus Walker 432nd 53m 13s; Andy Smith 505th 55m 32s.

Four Villages Half Marathon Hosted.
Despite the weather turning for the worst on the morning of the race, 1300 runners turned up for the clubs preimer event of the year. Mens winner was Duncan Mason from Salford Harriers in 1:07:29, Ladies winner was Jackie Newton from Stockport Harriers in 1:20:04. Helsby won the mens team prize and Shropshire Shufflers the Ladies team prize. Helsby's Paul Frodsham was the first lacal man home and Helsby's Lucy Gallon was the first local lady.

Liverpool & District Cross Country Championships
A Helsby Team of 6 Senior Men competed in the Liverpool & District Cross Country Championships at Clarks Gardens on Saturday. Graham McNeil 10th in 28m 9s; Dave Norman 15th 28m 34s; Wayne Percival 50th 30m 56s; Frank Stevens 51st 30m 58s; Graham McAra 56th 31m 15s; Marcus Walker 76th 33m 15s.

Helsby on the Fells
Helsby's Stephanie Charman's trip to North Wales to compete in the 4.5 miles 1500ft. Llangynhafal Loop Fell race was rewarded with a victory in the Ladies 'super vet' category, finishing 60th overall in 59min 59sec. Also running for Helsby were Andy Todd 42nd in 52m 27s and Robbie Webster 51st 55m 59s.

County Success for Helsby Running Club
At the Cheshire Cross Country Championships, held at Hartford on Sunday, Helsby Senior Mens Team took the Cheshire Team Title, this is the first time it has achieved this honour. Mark Hinson won the over 40 Cheshire Medal with Roy Tunstall taking the over 60 award, the mens veterans team took third place in the veterans category.
