Club night is Wednesday,
with the communal training run starting at 6:30pm from the club
house. In the summer we have a testing
hill route which is approxiamtely 9 miles in length and being
largely off road can be quite challenging, taking in as it does
the delights of Helsby Hill and other local scenic spots. During
the winter the darkness forces us off the country and onto streetlit
roads. To relieve the monotony of pounding the streets in the
gloom we have three different routes, all of about the same length
(a bit over 8 miles - there is still dispute amongst some folk
as to whether any particular route is just over 8, or really
actually 9. It all seems to depend on whether one is having a
good day or a bad one. Seasoned runners will be familiar with
this sort of issue). These take us to Frodsham,
Ince & Elton and Mickle
Trafford and the three rotate on a three week cycle. Of course
folk are welcome to make up their own variants, and often do.
The ladies generally
stick together and run their own variants depending upon communal
ability and inclination. Joe Beswick, one of the grand old men of the club
is nowadays mentor and running guru to the ladies and often entertains them
with local anecdotes and his poetry during their Wednesday evening runs.
