About Heartland Press

Heartland Press is a modest publishing house based in the City of Birmingham, United Kingdom. It was originally set up in 1991 by historians Ray Shill and Ian Minter to produce quality local history and industrial archaeological titles.

Recent publications have concentrated on the West Midlands of England, but there are other long-term projects which will deal with subjects elsewhere in Britain.

Heartland Press is truly a home grown enterprise, with its roots fixed firmly in the "Heartlands" area of Birmingham. Our first book Storm Warrior was compiled at the Amber Valley Print Centre, Chester Road, bound by Henry Mills of Aston and the cover printed by Three Spires Print & Design, also originally of Aston. Subsequent books have all been produced by Three Spires and bound by Henry Mills. Roger Berry Design of Handsworth Wood, Birmingham, completes the graphics and smooths out the kinks.

We pride ourselves on producing quality titles to a high standard and professional finish.

Heartland Press also undertakes research for other organisations and individuals. A good current example is The Birmingham Canals, researched and written by Ray Shill for Sutton Publishing.

Our latest publication:

A HISTORY OF COAL MINING AROUND HALESOWEN
by Nigel Chapman.
