Okay then: Its use in the comic reflects the geo-politics: The feminists conquer through tribal (Physical) imperialism in the reality of Cerebus, but through cultural (Conceptual) imperialism in our own.

There seems to be little difference in effect, because physical imperialism always serves as a vehicle for ideas, and it is the acceptance of rules which enables power. The fact is though, modern technology (Communications and transport) have enabled cultural empires that transcend traditional borders. Once rules are packaged persuasively, physical presence is not such a prerequisite for control.
