Summary:

In a wide angle view, all of the former looks like:

  • Twins are used as representations of Exception and Consensus, and also Cerebus' duality.
  • Exception and Consensus are two states in which an individual, and also a group, can exist.
  • There is no fate, reality is simply action and consequence.
  • Responsibility and individuality are needed for happiness.
  • A culture based solely on consensus (brought about by principles declared right, thereafter controlling) is no good for the individual, but an individual can do good. The consensus worldview is what much of culture is now based on.

The principles of the above paragraph are shown in Cerebus simply by characters with different worldviews, and the consequences of their actions. I believe they apply in our own society.

Cerebus duality is unresolved at issue 262, he is still stuck with much of his old paradigm.

Specualtion:

I think that:

The main ideas in the denouement of Cerebus will be:
The teachings of feminism.
The teachings of Jesus/Rick.

I think there will be much action and consequence in the last 35 issues. Two bodies of teaching/thought will be in opposition, Cerebus duality will be resolved, some serious comment will be made about the world we live in, the Ascension, the Elf and the Judge (not to mention fire sneezes...) might be "fully explained", all leading up to the death of Cerebus.
