Many of you have never heard of Intermedieval, let alone considered being a member/supporter.
SO! Let’s start with an introduction and see if we can interest you in
supporting it:
1.The
aims of the Inter-Medieval are:
1.
The development and furtherance of the chivalric ideal in
the Era’s 500 to 1500;
2. The enhancement of camaraderie among fellow medieval re-enactors from different countries and cultures;
3.
The free exchange of ideas, experience and information;
4.
The establishment of an international circuit of chivalric tournaments.
General
concepts
2.
All members must conform to the aims of the Alliance. Although!
Maintaining their independence and peculiarities is essential to illustrate
individual customs and cultures.
3.
Whenever altogether the members must follow the guidance of the
councillors and/or the society acting as host at a particular event.
4.
Any differences among members must be calmly, courteously and honourably
solved among them selves (completely avoid making them known in public).
5.
All members should freely share ideas, knowledge and experiences,
providing appropriate advice whenever necessary.
6.
Any members may propose amendments to the Inter-Medieval Guidelines
whenever they think necessary, such proposals being subjected to the decision of
the majority of the Member Societies.
The
Council
7.
The Council has been the entity responsible for the administration of the
Alliance. It is composed of a Chief Administrator, two Councillors and two
Advisors (one in the area of Living History and the other in the area of
Archery).
8.
Duties of the Council.
a.
The Council will present these Guidelines to the member societies.
b.
The Council will provide all the information relative
to the Alliance, to the member societies.
c.
The
Council will promote the ideals and the activities of the Alliance worldwide.
The
Meetings
9. All member societies should endeavour to promote Conferences and Tournaments in their own countries. Not only to gather the fellow Societies together and hold tournaments, but also to recruit non-member Societies interested in joining. Events already planned could be used for this purpose.
Chivalric
Tradition
1.
To all re-enactors who strive to pursue the tradition of “Chivalry” as
an ideal to defend and live by; this is particularly addressed to you. You have
the responsibility of:
a. Promoting
discussions of chivalric issues with your fellow knights.
b.
Reading
medieval and modern novels of chivalry, biographies, chronicles, as well as
essays and historiography on the subject.
c. Conduct yourselves in the lists and out of them, including in your everyday life, as befits a knight – always be courteous, sincere, honest and friendly.
Its objectives can be stated as follows:
1.To promote “Middle Ages” re-enactment and living history on an international scale (hopefully fostering the age-old chivalric feeling of Brotherhood that has caused knights and swordsmen to feel close kindred with each other). Emphasising the educational aspects and supporting efforts to establish working relationships between re-enactment groups & governmental bodies “locally”, “nationally” and “internationally”.
2. To promote the values inherent in the medieval & chivalric ideals within an International body, to support the pursuit of these Ideals through the mechanism of living history and tournaments throughout Europe, working towards the establishment of a set of EU international Guidelines governing Battles & Tournaments which would be open to any trained medieval combatant.
3. To promote Education, Trade, Training, Reciprocate knowledge, ideas and camaraderie between members of divers medieval backgrounds, through support mechanisms of communication and friendship (hopefully through visits and a variety of social intercourse).
Getting the picture…
OK! How do we achieve this:
The whole ethos of Intermedieval is to provide the vehicle to realise its aims… you and other Societies/Groups help fulfil those aims by simply being involved and lending your support. Principally, your support demonstrates there is a desire for a body like Intermedieval… but it can also manifest itself in a variety of other ways, e.g. “supporting a French group as part of a city medieval pageant [mostly paid] or guide and entertain an Italian contingent at Tewkesbury or helping to host a British international medieval Tournament & Battle”. The possibilities are endless and only limited by our imaginations. Business, International Trade and Cultural Heritage could all benefit from Intermedieval…
--- Would you fancy taking part in an International Medieval Tournament?
I personally relish the idea of re-creating the 14th century Portuguese battle where English Knights and Bowmen fought along side the Portuguese against a much larger Spanish army and won… sound familiar!
Intermedieval is the vehicle that will allow us to communicate, co-ordinate and organise these things on a world-wide basis.
What does it cost? Nothing!
We should almost certainly be prepared to contribute to newsletters and the like, but most funding will come from EEC cultural and heritage grants which will be available for a well supported international organisation So lend your support, do it today!
