Anything else you want to know, you'll have to mail me and ask! I'm not shy...
This is based on the weekly questionnaire in The Guardian. It usually makes for an interesting read - sorry, I haven't tried to be witty...
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Sitting somewhere warm and sunny with loved ones, with no clouds literal or metaphorical on the horizon
What is your greatest fear?
Being incapacitated such that I am permanently dependent on others for the most basic things
With which historical figure do you most identify?
I would rather identify with myself
Which living person do you most admire?
Nelson Mandela, even though it's the obvious answer
What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
A tendency to take too much on, and then wonder how I'm going to get it all done
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Unreliability
What vehicles do you own?
Red Fiat Uno
What is your greatest extravagance?
I hope it's yet to come
What objects do you always carry with you?
Keys, wallet
What do you most dislike about your appearance?
Where do I start? I try to accept myself as I am, seeing as I can't change it
What is your most unappealing habit?
You'd have to ask other people - but I'd say, remembering obscure quotes from favourite films or TV shows and quoting them when it seems appropriate. Work colleagues might say, using too many double negatives
What is your favourite smell?
Fresh coffee and fresh bread
How did you vote in the last election?
Labour
How will you vote in the next election?
Probably Labour, but it's too soon to say
Should the Royal Family be scrapped?
In principle yes, but the alternatives seem far, far worse; if it ain't broke?
Do you believe in capital punishment?
No, but some of the recent atrocities in the Balkans - and closer to home - strain my principles almost to breaking point
Do you believe in monogamy?
Yes
What or who is the greatest love of your life?
Tabitha
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
When I was about 8, I was humiliated in front of a school assembly by the head teacher. The fact that her comments were unfair, and that she seemed to take a sadistic pleasure from the exercise, made it far worse (and they were still unfair now, looking back from a more objective stance 20+ years on)
Which living person do you most despise?
The headmistress above (assuming that she is still alive). Closely followed by Baroness Thatcher
Have you ever said 'I love you' and not meant it?
Not that I can remember
What words or phrases do you most overuse?
"Not unreasonable" and "not inappropriate"
What makes you depressed?
The inhumanity of man towards man
What is your favourite book?
The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera
How do you relax?
In the sunshine with a good crossword
What is your greatest regret?
Losing touch with so many
good friends over the course of time, through mutual neglect rather
than malice or animosity
How often do you have sex?
That's for me to know and you to guess
What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
A bigger garden
How would you like to die?
Quickly and painlessly, at a ripe old age
How you would you like to be remembered?
Fondly, as someone who tried his best at everything he did
What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Not to assess other people's likely behaviour based on what I would do in the same situation
What would your motto be?
If it's worth doing , it's worth doing properly
What keeps you awake at night?
Nothing
