KATHMANDU TREKKING was formed in 1988, and were then making general backpacking equipment, to the highest standard. Around 1992 we started to design and make ultralight backpacking gear, starting with the Basha-Tent, which weighs just over 3lbs, sleeps up to 4, and cost, then, about £60. We then went on to produce a comprehensive range of Bashas, designed for a variety of uses from basic overnight cover, to more exotic designs that are capable of giving several people comfortable protection in extreme climates for extended periods of time. Our most basic basha costs under £20, and can give two people overnight shelter in reasonable comfort. Larger versions cost nearer £50, and can, due to their design, provide up to total weather protection. As the weight of even a large basha is only around 20oz this represents very lightweight camping indeed. Materials used are generally rip-stop, either olive or DPM. But for club use, or for, say, storage in a 4wd we can make up in 4oz cloth. Apart from the standard range, of around ten stock sizes, in two or three different colours, we can also produce to customers' design, assuming it to be practical. We also make other items, including a rather clever single-pole basha, a wig-wam, basha-poles, ruc-sac covers, emergency shelters, bivvy bags, mosquito nets, moneybelts, and webbing items. These are all dependable, practical pieces of kit. We produced the first items that started the current ultralight movement in the early 90's. Since that time a lot of overnight experts have sprung up, and a lot of very strange and ineffective kit has turned up too. You will find here proven designs that you can rely on, that have been used all over the world, in a variety of climates, to great effect. Nearly everything we make comes from an original design of our own, based on experience of outdoor life. And we have loads of testimonials and gear tests to back us up...... for further information please contact Julian or Wendy on 01970-890425 |
