All sorts of news to do with Lego which I found as
well as my opinions on the Magazine etc.
| Singapore Stamps - 11/07/02 |
|
These
stamps, issued on May 22nd, are part of a series produced with
toys as their theme. Four different Lego themes have been given
their own stamp, they are Lego Racers, Lego Scala, Bionicle and
Lego Basic.
The stamps will be available for about the next two years.

| Lego Shop at Home - 07/07/02 |
|
The latest 'Shop at Home' magazine has just arrived, with some
good bits and bad bits. The Spiderman and Scary Monsters film
sets
are really great, and it looks like Lego are starting to come
out with a decent series at last. The Island Xtreme Stunts section
is not bad, but the Skateboard Challenge set looks cheap and tacky,
with too many large pieces and not enough constructing. The Spybotics
look VERY cool, but they are still too expensive for me to buy.
It looks like the sort of series that could develop quite well.
Finally, I don't understand why they had to print the ugliest,
most pathetic model ever seen on their Build it Your Way section.
Come on, they'll never see those bulk packs with adverts like
that!

A
great Flash page, which lets you build your own minifigure with
many wacky styles and designs not limited to actual Lego parts.
I saw this site featured in the Internet Magazine (June 2002),
quoting,
"At one time or another everybody wonders what they might
look like if they were made of Lego - it's a question that's plagued
mankind for decades."

| Lego Magazine - 01/06/02 |
|
Yesterday I got the 'new look' Lego magazine through my door
and my first impressions were good. The logo "Lego Magazine"
is far better than before and the new layout on the front makes
it see full of more features. I will give my impressions on each
section in turn:
- The Amazing Redini has now taken over contol of the mailbag
page (originally she was found on the BUILD section of the Lego
website). I am still skeptical as to whether kids actually ask
the questions themselves, even more so now that no name, age
and address is given for each letter. I also think that some
of the answers are pretty pointless, for example, look at the
question beginning "Do you make the Lego magazine..."
- The "spotlight on" bit is not bad, some interesting
information there, although having seen the film I am unsure
as to what Anakin's 'darker side' is.
- The cartoon is basically a cheap advert for the film "What
happens next? Find out by seeing the Star Wars Episode II: Attack
of the Clones in cinemas from 16th May 2002".
- Both Buildit models look quite tacky, although I do not plan
to build them so I will never no quite how good they are.
- Pocket models. Those monsters look just like the sort of thing
my Dad builds when we've used up all the bricks. Apart from
'Gig', they all look quite cool and have some really clever
connections for the pieces on them.
- The feature bit contains lots of good information, especially
on the other films. From what I can gather, there is more online,
but I have yet to find out.
- The Spiderman maze. This is pretty easy but looks quite good
and is probably good fun for younger kids.
- Even though I am not a great fan of Bionicle, I still always
thing that the cartoons are really well drawn, although I can
never remember the ending of the last episode so I do not read
the saga as one continuous story.
I have missed some parts out, including the Lego Super Showdown
(cool idea), new look titles (interesting) and web adverts. Overall
though, the 'new look' magazine is a definite improvement. NB:
Anybody notice that they printed the postcard upside down?

Along with the Magazine came the 'Shop at Home' booklet. The
new Studios models look really cool, as does the Republic Gunship
(although quite a bit overpriced). I also like the look of the
new Island Xtreme Stunts models.
