For many of the models that I build, there is just as much work on the computer with the images as off the computer with the bricks. Here I will show you how I produced one of the images for the Bricklebury L-System Times.

This image is basically in two parts, the model and the fireball. To build the model, I referred to a James Bond Handbook of my brothers.

The model has parts taken from the 'Rock Raiders' series to give it an underground, mining feel. The Lego figure is secured to the rope with blue-tac (sticky-putty)

You can see a picture of the model here. I took about 10 photographs of the model (have a look at those at the bottom). Once I had selected the one which I wanted, I loaded the image in Fireworks at set to work on it.

Even if you don't have Fireworks, any graphics program better than 'Paint' will do.

The first thing to do was to cut out the background at the end of the tunnel. This was done using the magic wand tool and Lasso tool.

When doing this, don't forget to cut out the smaller sections such as the gaps in the chain.Have a look here (Cutting transparent areas from images) for more information.

Then I needed a fireball. When looking for images, I often search on Google Images for the correct one, which is often very helpful. The three best ones which I found (searching for 'fire+explosion') can be seen at the bottom.

After I had chosen one, I loaded it into Fireworks and slotted it behind the image. I also had some touching up to do, for example, I had to make it look as if the flame was surging down the tunnel so I cut out a section of the floor.
