Veneers

What are Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that cover a tooth to mask it's discolouration or shape.
They are less destructive than crowns, as the tooth preparation is minimal, and does not normally need an injection.
The veneers are then bonded on to the tooth.

Veneer Facts:

This is a side view of a tooth that needs to be veneered.

A thin portion of the front of the tooth has been removed. Impressions are taken and sent to the laboratory. The veneer is made to fit the tooth, and is then bonded on to the tooth by the dentist.

After!

  • Veneers may be available on the NHS.
  • Veneers may very occasionally become unglued, and need re-bonding.
  • Veneers cannot be used if the tooth is heavily filled. (A crown may be more appropriate.)
  • May make the tooth slightly sensitive for a few days.

Over the years, as the gum recedes, the junction of the veneer and tooth, that is normally hidden by gum, may become visible.
