There are 2 main methods of bleaching:
At home bleaching: -an impression is taken that is used to make lightweight appliances like mouth guards. The patient is demonstrated in the surgery how to apply the bleaching gel and explained the necessary precautions to take. The rest of the process is done in the comfort of his or her home. It takes from 2 to 3 weeks to obtain a satisfactory result.
In surgery: -this procedure is done in the surgery in 1--3 sessions with the use of a different chemical and a strong light source. The result is immediate, but more expensive.
