Diagram B12: 12t plate wagon
Used for the transport of steel plate for the industrial areas of the North East. Some wagons had trestles fitted to increase carrying capacity. Also used for the transport of agricultural machinery.
Diagram B15: 12t low goods wagon
Built at York in 1920 these high capacity low sided goods wagons lasted to the early 1950's.

Diagram C1: 5t open fish truck
Built from 1894 onwards these 5 ton wagons were used to transport fish from the ports to the urban centres. Fully fitted and Westinghouse piped they were able to operate in express passenger trains. Many were Westinghouse and steam fitted as well.

Diagram C2: 8t open goods wagon
The standard open wagon built from 1886 onwards. Over the years changes to iron work and axleboxes enabled load to be increased to 10 tons.

Diagram C3: 8t open goods wagon with expanded metal frames

The expanded metal frame enabled the volume of low density goods to be increased at a time when the NER was short of open goods wagons. Used for all manner of light goods, empty baskets, boxes, vegetables etc.

Diagram C10 12t open goods wagon
Introduced in 1908 this was the ultimate NER open wagon. Fitted with oil axle boxes, Morton brake and carrying 12 tons. Examples lasted to the late 1950's.

Diagram D1 8/10t single bolster wagon
Built in many hundreds from the 1880's this was the standard NER single wagon. Seen in pairs, threes, fours or even fives as the traffic required. Used for all manner of long loads such as steel, timber etc.

Diagram D2 8/10t single bolster wagon with patent swevilling bolster
Built during 1902/3 these single bolsters featured the patent swivelling bolster. Used for all manner of long loads usually seen in pairs but in threes , fours or fives as traffic demanded
Diagram D4 8/10t twin bolster wagon
Built in the 1897/8 period these wagons were used for the transport of all manner of long loads.
Diagram G1 8t covered goods wagon
An early van, some were allocated as Yeast or Road vans to particular towns. Gradually replaced by large capacity vans.

Diagram G2a 12t covered goods wagon
Introduced from 1906 the G2 was modified over the years with changes to the strapping, roof doors and running gear. Long lived seen country wide.

Diagram F6 10t covered fish van
Used for fish traffic from the North East ports to the urban areas. Designed to replace the C1 open wagons then in use. Fully fitted and Westinghouse fitted also, these were able to run in passenger trains.

Diagram F9 perishable goods van
Special design for the transport of perishable goods with a louvre ventilators complete with filters and an asphalt floor. Dual braking from new was fitted allowing operation in passenger trains.

Diagram K1: 8/10t cattle wagon

The NER favoured a medium cattle wagon which they built in large numbers. Variations in running gear and braking arrangements occurred over the years including a fully fitted version for running in passenger trains.

Diagram P5: 11t coal wagon

Used for the transport of coal or any other mineral as a the need arose, the origin of these P5 wagons can be traced back to 1879. Long lasting several ended their days in the service of the National Coal Board.
