This high capacity goods van was used to ship items, especially pottery & fine china requiring protection from the elements. Seen frequently outside the region.

The final standard design of open wagon used for the transport of a wide range of goods including pottery, barrels, in particular beer, seen nation wide.

The silk van was used to transport silk from Congleton, Leek and Macclesfield to London and very probably others areas of the country where' making up', (clothing making) was a major industry.

Introduced to improve braking on the heavy mineral traffic typical of the North Staffordshire Railway. This break included several unusual features such as the outside brake handle. A long lived van commonly seen in the North Midlands or wherever the NSR had running rights.
