Spain was alternates between a heavy lined, shadowed style and a lighter one. His subject matter ranges from bikers to Soviet women air aces to post apocalyptic futuristic sci-fi whores. Towering above all these is the character of Trashman, international terrorist a kind of commie counter culture James Bond.

Among his other work for Zap was Mara, Mistress of the Void (From Zap 4) and this Linda Blair fantasy.

Spain has also done several more autobiographical stories, based on his youth spent as a biker. These have been printed in a collection called "My True Story". He has also adapted "Nightmare Alley".

Another collection is "She:comics anthology" which features Big Bitch.
