SUMMARY
Performance of Musicardo Magic in the Melody
Welcome ladies and gentlemen to this production by Musicardo of Magic in the Melody. Tonight the full cast, which includes over 50 local students and performers, shall present to you a varied selection of music covering everything from hit musicals such as Oliver and The Sound of Music, to country classics such as Rose Garden and Neon Moon. Some of the younger members of our cast attend the John Brookes School of Irish Dancing and I am very pleased to be having them perform a number of traditional Irish dance displays tonight. This will be the first time Musicardo has put on a production with the assistance of local students and their tutors and I would like to thank Luton Sixth Form music tutor Ross Purves for all his help and support. The Luton Sixth Form Brass Group will be opening the show with a rousing selection of instrumental performances which include pieces such as The Battle Hymn of the Republic and Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair. The brass group consists of twelve accomplished grade eight musicians led by Simon Router from Luton Music Service, who is a well known local conductor. The second half of tonight's show will be opened by the Luton Sixth Form Gospel Choir, who will be performing Heaven by Mary Mary along with a number of other inspiring displays of choral gospel numbers. The choir consists of 16 singing members, accompanied on electric piano and drums. It is led by Sandra Morris, who is a local singer and musician who also works with a number of school choirs. Magic in the Melody is performed as a part of Young at Hearts Festival 2007. This is an annual celebration of the arts, now in its fifth year, run by Beds Senior Citizens' Arts and Recreational Forum. This series of events is held annually in Luton in order to commemorate International Older Person Day (October 1st). Musicardo has participated in this festival for the past three years. Our group was set up to allow local performers, scriptwriters, songwriters and musicians to develop their talents and perform for the local community. Tonight's show has brought together a vast number of local people who have worked very hard to make this event a success. It is the result of all their hard work and I hope you find it an exciting and enjoyable experience to watch! Ken Robbins (Producer)
