The following clips are from a programme presented by Robin Day in 1959. The programme, presumably broadcast across the network, looks at the structure of Independent Television at the time. Robin explains about the regions and hands over to Roy Rich at Southern Television, who explains about the plans and programmes currently broadcast by Southern. At the time, Southern was only broadcasting to Central Southern England. Plans were already underway for a service for the South East Area.

Farming Programme Arthur Street discusses with a studio guest whether the Tomato and Cucumber Marketing Board should be scrapped.

Swap Shop No, nothing to do with Noel Edmonds, but the idea's the same. Viewers are invited to bring something to the studio they want to swap. In this clip, A Petty Officer's wife wants to swap her old gas boiler for a Baby's Armchair but she has a bit of a surprise when she gets an invite to stay behind after the show!

Probe Southern's Outside Broadcast Unit goes to towns in the region for a "debate in public NOT a Public Debate". Smells from the Fawley Oil Refinery are the subject in this clip.

Music Output Finally Roy explains that Southern's Lunchtime programmes aren't right yet but their Music Output is. Listen to Malcolm Mitchell and "Who Wrote the Book of Love" direct from Southampton. This concludes the look at Southern, Roy hands back to Robin Day.
