The Ouse Valley (Sussex) FlyFishers club was basically formed in 1984
but was then a branch of the FDG. Although many of our members still
belong to The Fly Dressers Guild it was felt that by forming a fly fishing
club it gave the members the choice of belonging to both or not as the
case may be.
Since then we have tried hard to attract new members and although we
have had success we currently have about thirty members but have had over
forty at best.
We now meet regularly at the Royal Oak in Barcombe on Thursday evenings
throughout the year (see Club Events for details)
where we hold many social events such as Quiz night, Skittles evening but
also have guest speakers and fly tying evenings.
Most members enjoy fly fishing and socialising best and we hold several
fishing outings at local reservoirs such as Barcombe and Arlington
Reservoirs. Many members also fish at Bewl Water and with such a choice of
small waters and reservoirs in this area it is hard to decide which waters
to fish.
There is a regular newsletter "The Dibbler's Digest" sent out
to all members to keep everyone informed of forthcoming events with some
very worthwhile articles on all topics of fly fishing.
We hold an annual dinner every year where we present cups and trophies for various categories from
Brown Trout Cup to Club Champion Trophy. I'm sure we would all fancy
winning one throughout our stay at the club but most of us just enjoy the
chance to further our fly fishing and tying in good company and with
friends.
We have normally enter a team in the at
least one National Competition but are finding it more difficult to get a team up
every year. So if there is anyone out there who fancies boat fishing loch
style, then you should join and enjoy the camaraderie of fishing in such a
prestigious competition.
