How do I Tame my Re-Root!?!

Chances are once you've completed your re-root you're going to stand back and look at the result in horror; the hair will look all wrong - not falling correctly, needing some styling etc. Welcome to Nick's very basic doll hair boutique...

This green re-root you've been following me through will end up being the Marvel villainess, Viper. To capture her likeness, she needs a fall of hair over her eye.

If you just haul a pile of the rooted hair over you're going to end up with bald spots... so it's time to do some teasing Grab a cocktail stick and turn your attention to the front two rows of hair - now tease the second row through the first, hole by hole so that the strands from the second row fall forward while the strands in the front keep going back.

Just post re-root though the hair isn't going to want to fall right or even stay where you've just styled it. Time to apply some force!

Hold the hair tightly in the style you want then clamp it in place - a Magneto helmet works wonders. Or the plastic tub inside a Kinder egg... or even a band of clear plastic cut from a polythene bag. Don't be tempted by elastic bands as if these are too tight they can dent the vinyl.

Trimmed off a little of the rooted hair before wrapping in in clear polythene to keep it sleek, straight together in the next few stages.

Popped the head into a suitably-sized plastic dish... and then set a pan of water boiling...

(NOTE; if you want curly hair, twist strands of hair around pipecleaners)

Once boiled, the water's poured into the dish and the head & hair is submerged for a few minutes.

The hot water should help set the hair in the desired style.

After 4 or 5 minutes the head is removed (NOT using fingers!) and left to blot and cool for a while on some kitchen paper.

Then it's under a cold tap with the head to cool and finish setting the hair.

The head & hair is then left to dry. It's best to let it dry naturally over night, but if you're impatient you can use a hairdryer to speed things up. Time to put the head back on the FC body - supergluing the split up the back of the head if necessary (and keep it moving incase a bit bleed through onto the hard plastic neck!)

Once dry, it's just a case of a final trim - remember to trim slowly towards the desired length.

Once the Viper custom is complete, I'll add some setting gel (just normal cheap stuff will do) to her hair to hold it in place.
