How It All Began
Nick Bower established the Springwell
surgery in February 1985 and from the beginning the goal was
to provide a high-level surgery for companion animals. The
original location was Springwell Villas in Tring, hence the
name Springwell, however, the surgery has since moved to bigger
premises in Western Road.
Shortly
after opening Nick increased his equine experience by obtaining
a specialist qualification in equine medicine and from then
on the practice has gone from strength to strength. Meanwhile
Patrick Dale joined the Springwell
surgery in May 1988, having gained his small animal and equine
experience working in Somerset and his farm expertise working
in Warwickshire.
The
practice continued to grow almost exponentially with Carl
Temple joining the team in 1989. Carl had general experience
in a mixed practice in Essex that also catered for the local
greyhound community. He also worked with wild animals at Chessington
Zoo. His tale of performing a c-section on a lion has always
impressed his friends.
Relocation
In
1995 the practice relocated to 98 Western Road, and in doing
so gained a real 'gem' of a surgery retaining the 'James Herriot'
style practice that a small provincial town like Tring should
have. We also have a fully independent facility named Noah's
Ark in Dunstable. The surgery is a flourishing practice catering
for the small animal needs in the old market town.
The Future
Currently
we are looking towards extending the Springwell surgery to
provide more space, with separate kennelling rooms for dogs
and cats, more operating facilities and a disabled access.
In March 2002 we welcomed Hannah
Ridgewell to the team, as our fourth full time veterinary
surgeon.
"Throughout
the development of our practice we have always offered the
highest quality of care".
