| The Saab 35 Draken (Dragon), entered service with the Swedish Air Force in March 1960. It has been built in Fighter, bomber, trainer and reconnaissance versions. The Power-plant is one Volvo Flygmotor RM6C (licence built Rolls Royce Avon 300) this gives a maximum speed of 1,312 mph (2,112 km/h). Operators are Denmark, Finland and Sweden. |

| With out doubt the Dassault-Breguet range of Mirage aircraft have proved to be one of the finest and most capable fighters in the history of Western Europe. The Mirage has equipped French Fighter squadrons since it first entered service in July 1961. It has been a tremendous export success being the fighter of choice of many air-arms world-wide. | The Sukhoi Su 27 "Flanker" is without doubt a exceptionally capable all weather counter air-fighter. While not combat proved it would appear to be a match for any current NATO fighter. Doubts have been expressed as to the combat validity of manoeuvres such as the famed "Cobra" and tail-slide performed by the Su 27, but there is no doubt that these abilities have concentrated the minds of NATO Top Brass. |
