Driver Gradings
The club operates a driver grading system which is based upon the system used nationally by the BRCA Stockcar sections; a similar system is also used by the Mini-Stox section. Please note that the grades used by NWSMS are NOT the same as that used by BRCA and cannot be used at national meetings.
There are 4 grading periods each year, and are as follows:
Period 1 January 1st - March 31st
Period 2 April 1st - June 30th
Period 3 July 1st - September 30th
Period 4 October 1st - December 31st
At each race meeting a drivers percentage score will be calculated by adding together the scores for each round and comparing those to the overall best scores for each round; see the table below
| Heat | Driver’s Score | Best Score |
| 1 | 15 laps | 18 laps |
| 2 | 16 laps | 17 laps |
| 3 | 8 laps | 17 laps |
| 4 | 18 laps | 18 laps |
| Total laps | 57 laps | 70 laps |
| Driver’s grading score | 81.42% |
At the end of each grading period the driver’s best four grading scores will be added together to give the final result for that period. These percentages will then be sorted into graded order.
The grades are determined as follows:
| Superstars (red roof with single white star) | top 5% |
| Red Tops (red roof) | next 15% |
| Blue Tops (blue roof) | next 30% |
| Yellow Tops (yellow roof) | next 35% |
| White Tops (white roof) | last 15% |
You cannot be downgraded more than one grade per period, eg Red to Yellow, your grade will be Blue regardless of your graded score. Once a driver has been graded to Yellow, he/she will not be graded back down to White; this grade is for novice drivers only.
As the number of drivers either rises or falls then the number of drivers eligible to hold a particular grade will also change.
Drivers should ensure that they do not compete with the wrong roof grade colour, although they will be given 2 meetings in which to get their cars painted the correct colour after the end of a grading period. Roofs should be painted from the top of the window openings or decals upwards with the drivers grading colour.
