The major event for the Motor Cruising Section takes place on 29th / 30th July, when the Club will be hosting the South West heat of the RYA /Volvo boat handling competition. This takes place just outside Weymouth Harbour and consists of a number of handling tasks. All are encouraged to join in, as the winners will go forward to the finals at Southampton Boat Show. Our Club trophy will also be competed for on this occasion. Our second competition, the predicted log, will take place on the 1st October, do put this in your diaries as it is usually another fun day out.
Now we have a boat again, it is much easier to run the competitions, and Ron and l are enjoying helping out with the yacht racing. `Timbo' is the Committee boat for this year's YCW Regatta in July, so we look forward to waving to our sailing friends. We can recommend this activity to other motor boat owners, or if not committee boat (raising flags is not easiest on a motor cruiser!), safety boats are always required and it does give you a good excuse to be out on the water! Happy cruising to you all,
Nichola Lane, Motor Cruiser Secretary
Social events for the Club do tend to be concentrated in the winter months, so our next formal event on the social calendar is Regatta Night on 6th October, followed by the Dinner Dance and Prizegiving on 25th November. The formal dinner held in March was not well attended which was a shame because it turned out to be an excellent evening with a very entertaining Speaker. The other event being held in the Clubhouse is the Casino Night being held on 9th September for the J24 Class race competitors. All members are welcome to attend and assistance with running the evening would be appreciated
The bar opening times have been changed to the following.
Mon - Sun 12.00-15.00
Mon - Sat 18.00 - 23.00
Sun 18.00 - 22.30
Please come and support the Club, and the new catering
arrangements.
Those members on the Internet may wish to visit the Club
website, which has been put together for us by Derek Williams. It
includes pictures and information about the Club, and hopefully
will encourage visitors to our facilities. Search on RDYC, then
go to FreeUK Customer Homepages, and RDYC is pan of the list If
you have an e-mail address, can you let Maxine in the Club Office
have it please (01305 786258) as this would be a much more
efficient means for us to keep you up to date with Club news and
events.
