in each example. Many other variations are possible, of course, which may depend on the individual situation.

Remember... The tape is not easily offended, if you are making a mistake, it is always possible to start all over again by erasing previous recordings.…

Duo Play…  (Sound with sound)

When making so-called duo play recordings, both tracks will be utilized, but the recording on each track takes place at different times.

Language students will provide an example: Record a language lesson on the left channel (REC L). For your language studies, this recording will now be reproduced through headphones while recording one's own pronunciation on the right channel. Both recordings can later be compared.

Preparations for recording on the right channel: Connect a microphone (29) and turn the input selector of the respective channel (28) to position MIC.

Move record pre-selector switch REC R (22) to position ON (REC L (18) in position OFF).

Monitor selector TAPE/INPUT (16) set to position INPUT. Speak into microphone and adjust for correct recording level (21).

Preparations for replay: Mode selector (17) in position LEFT.

Monitor selector TAPE/INPUT (16) set to position TAPE. Adjust for convenient headphone volume with potentiometer VOLUME (12). Start the tape machine in the recording mode and repeat the language lesson by

speaking into the microphone.

For comparison, rewind tape, turn mode selector (17) to position STEREO (left channel: language lesson; right channel: student's own voice) and start the recorder in the PLAY mode. If desired, one may alternate between LEFT/RIGHT by means of the mode selector.

Note: Language studies are also possible by applying the multi-play technique which requires the transfer of the language lesson onto the other track while simultaneously mixing-in one's own voice. This smart variant can be deduced from the instructions contained later in this section.

Simultaneous 2-channel recording:

As the title already expresses, the recording will take place on both tracks at the same time so that there is no time delay between the two recordings on tape (an disadvantage when working in the duo play fashion). This process results in a 2-channel monophonic recording (similar to stereo, but with different information on each track).

Examples for practical use: Simultaneous translations, training for special events reporting, commentary along a monophonic recording, singing or playing musical instruments in unison with another voice etc.

Preparations for recording:

Move both record pre-selectors REC L (18) and REC R (22) to position ON.

Turn monitor selector TAPE/INPUT (16) to position INPUT.

Mode selector (17) set to position STEREO. Left channel input AUX (27) (source: turntable, tape

recorder or tuner).

Adjust for correct recording level in the left channel (20), level indication LEFT CH recording level meter (13) sound will be audible through the left earphone of the headset.

Connect a microphone to socket (29) and turn input selector (28) to position MIC. Adjust for correct recording level in the right channel (21), level indication RIGHT CH meter (14) sound will be audible through the right earphone of the headset.

While recording, TAPE/INPUT switch (16) remains in position INPUT. The potentiometer VOLUME (12) permits balance adjustments to correct for level differences between left-hand and right-hand earphone. If listening to one's own voice is not desired, the mode selector (17) should be turned to position LEFT

Replay:

TAPE/INPUT switch (16) in position TAPE.

Mode selector (17) in position STEREO (each channel will be reproduced through the corresponding earphone) or, MONO (both tracks mixed into both earphones).

Multi-play recordings

(Sound on sound):

Because the B77 recorder is equipped with separate record and reproduce amplifiers in each channel, direct internal switching for multi-play and echo recordings is possible. In producing a multi-play recording, information contained on one track gets transferred onto the other track, while adding new information at the same time (second voice).
