Law in Scotland
Scotland has a different legal system from England - Scots Law.
Education
One big change in Scotland is the removal of the belt. Until it was removed, when you misbehaved in school you got it over your hand. Your hand would swell up and ache for ages. It had three prongs,so in theory you were getting it 3 times for every hit!
Murder
The penalty for murder used to be death. Now it is a life sentence. When people used to get killed, they would be beheaded with an axe in front of the whole city. People would pay to watch people getting beheaded as if it was a Scotland vs Brazil football match!
Parliament
This is not really a change in law, but I'll tell you about it anyway. Until 6th May, 1999 Britain had one big Parliament. But now they have two separate ones. The election on the 6th May 1999 was to elect the Scottish parliament for nearly 300 years.
The British parliamentin London has a labour majority, but the new Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh is a a coalition of Labour and Liberal Democrats
