We hold our regular meetings in Building 229 at RAF WELFORD
near Newbury on the last Thursday of each month (except December). Our
“window” for entry on base is between 19.30 hrs and 20..00 hrs. (7.30p.m.
to 8.00p.m.) and latecomers will be unlikely to gain access after this time
when the gates are locked until we are ready to leave. Our leaving
“window” is between 22.00 hrs and 22.30 hrs. (10.00p.m.to 10.30p.m.) The
upside of this strict security is that our large museum building housing our
“treasures” has the best armed protection possible courtesy the M.O.D
Police!
It is obviously imperative that we have your details on
file before you attempt to gain access to this airbase as we have to present
the names of members and newcomers to the MOD Police before each meeting in
the form of a regularly updated checklist. This makes life easier for all
concerned.
There is a £10.00 annual membership fee payable on joining and on each April
1st thereafter, and a charge of £1.00 per person is levied at every meeting.
Strict accounts are kept and all monies are ploughed back into the group for
the benefit of all members.
We will be pleased to welcome you at any of our forthcoming
meetings or events but ask that you complete and forward the separate
membership record slip together with a cheque or postal order for £5.00 made
payable to:- The Ridgeway Military and Aviation Research Group
Also we will need, as soon as possible, a recent passport
size photograph of yourself to enable us to make up your membership
card/security pass which you may keep until leaving the group for any reason.
This must be shown to the MOD Police at the gate on entry to the base. A
temporary membership card will be sent as soon as your records are on file
until your permanent card is made.
ALWAYS bring your card with you to meetings. Please DO NOT
LOSE IT as a replacement will cost you £5.00.
We look forward to you joining the ranks of military
historians.
