Postal facelift with stamp fan's counter

Major improvements are to be made to the counter area at Grimsby's Head Post Office inVictoria Street, which will include a specialist section for philatelists. The facelift will mean more convenient facilities and a better environment for customers.

Work is due to start on March 21(1971) and is scheduled for completion by the middle of May.

The scheme will bring together all the types of counter service now available within the head office building

Those service's handled at the small satellite counter at the rear of the building in Osborne Street will be transferred to the modernised main counter in Victoria Street.

This will include the issuing of British Visitor's Passports, the resetting of franking-meter machines, andNationalGirobank corporate business deposits. At the stamp enthusiasts' counter, the Post Office's full range of popular items and facilities will be on sale and a trained member of staff will be on hand.

For staff

The scheme will also mean improved working conditions for staff. At present more than 100 different types of transactions, ranging from the sale of stamps to issuing vehicle licenses, are done over Post Office counters
The variety of work is planned to expand even further with new Government legislation, coupled with a countrywide Post Office marketing drive to attract more business. The rebuilding scheme involveslarge-scale alterations and will mean demolishing most of the present counter area.

The Post Office has apologized in advance for any inconvenience that may be caused to customers during the work. HeadPostmasterMr. Robin Hitchin commented:

"We ask customers to bear with us over the next few weeks, and at the end of the day it will mean better facilities all round."
