12TH NOV 1938

On duty – was bitten by a dog while chastising a boy for striking a girl. Dog belonged to the boys father. Degree of injury slight, no sick leave.

17th Feb 1932

When driving motor 2818 G at 5.45 knocked down child in Ladysmith Rd, due to child running in to road from footpath without looking. Child, PJ Baldwin, 14, Buller St Grimsby slightly injured about face, no claim made.

 

W. KINGSWOOD

19th Nov 1935

On duty received sever scalds on right arm when removing radiator cap off official van. Sick leave 18 days.

 

J.J. BRADFORD  Cleaner

9th Jan 1939

Whilst playing with child at home, received a knock in the lower part of the body causing a bruised urethra. Absent sick up to and including 18th Feb.

 

MARKHAM  Allen

On 20th Jan 1930  hand bitten by a rat whilst cleaning stove, at Fish Dock BO.

 

K. BESSEY Temp Postwoman (Brigg)

On duty 7th Dec 1942, cycled over a sugar beet in Bigby Street. Fell off bruising left shoulder and neck.

9th March 1942

On duty.

Collided with wall when learning to drive official van. Damage estimated at £13.2.6

 

G.RYLEY

14th Oct 1931

Off duty.

Attempting to repair watch. Struck in left eye by the main spring. Absent 5th Oct 31 to 10th Oct 31.

 

D. ETTY  Messenger (Brigg)

16th July 1930

When on duty, swallowed a small lead pellet. No injury leave.

 

J.A. DAVIDSON

Whilst watching a cricket match (off duty) on 13th July 1938 was knocked over by cricketer at sustained bruises to left groin / 6 day sick leave.

 

A.W.G. WHERRETT

30th July 1940

Involved in aircraft accident. Two machines collided in mid air, and one dropped on van driven by W Wherret. The only injury sustained, was scratch to right ear. No sick absence.

 

J.R.VON- DIX   Boy messenger

On 18th Oct 1929 bitten by a dog owned by, F Cawthen, Templecroft, Scartho Rd – no sick leave, dog destroyed.

 

C.J.SEDMAN

26th Nov 1947

Off duty- left thigh and leg badly bruised, as a result of fall caused by drain being left uncovered by workman employed by Morris T. Wilkinson and sons. Bk 2 Whites Rd Cleethorpes.  On sick leave, 27th Nov 1947 to 13th Dec 1947.  Claim for loss of services, £13.7.6    Settled by National Employers Ins Ltd.

 

DOUGHTY E   Postman.

Whilst riding Motorcycle (in brackets off duty) came in collision with a pig, sustained injuries to knee and elbow. Treated as ordinary sick leave -  3 days.

 

OSBORNE

29TH April 1935

Whilst on delivery in Bargate, using official cycle involved in collision with a motorcycle driven by Police constable on motor patrol duty. Mr Osborne mainly responsible as he failed to give any signal. Damage to rear wheel of cycle repaired at cost of department.

 

D.L WEIN   Postman

17th Sept 1931

Playing football with Post Office team fell and injured left forearm. Absent from 18th Sept 1931, to 3rd Oct 1931.

 

A.J. STAPLETON   Aux Postman

On 17th March whilst on delivery, caught his neck in a wireless aerial, left hanging across the path of Jesmond , Humberston Ave. No sick leave nessasary.

 

A.J. STAPLETON   

On 21st Oct 1931  sustained an injury to his wrist whilst cleaning a telephone kiosk, in his capacity as Postman cleaner. Compensation allowed under WCA at rate of 23/7 a week for

1 5/6 weeks.

 

L.F LIDGARD

On duty 2nd Jan 1931. Cycling in Pasture Street overtaking horse drawn cart when horse slipped owing to frosty state of the road, and fell , causing Lidguard to fall from cycle and to be slight crushed by the horse.

 

F.W OXBORROW

On 7th June 1948

Slipped and fell into dock whist delivering Telegram to HMS Bern. Slight injury, one day absence.
